WHY YOU SHOULD CALCULATE YOUR DYNAMIC MODELS BY REALISTIC (DYNAMIC, NON-LINEARITY) STUDIES INSTEAD OF JUST STATIC – Elevator components

First, a quick answer is easy…. because the reality is dynamic! For sure, you may find affordable reasons for not doing it, like these:

Reason 1. It is not necessary, indeed

Reason 2. Static approach is good enough for us

Reason 3. Less expensive, of course

In order not to become boring, we are going to write the best reasons for calculating with realistic methods and showing some pictures to support our explanation:

  • Inertial behaviour is taking into account. It offers not expected side effects (surprises) at all
  • Capability to study further vibrations in comparison with natural frequencies
  • More accurate results since you may introduce elastic components like silentblocks.
  • Showing faithfully the reality, so you are able to take your decisions based on these results. 

Note: we are based on elevator carframe, where static and dynamic results in acting safety gears were compared. This study was developed by Diego Pascual, SAMAT expert on FEA.

 

CONCLUSIONS:

  • Dynamic reactions are higher than static assumptions, although during short time period:

 

  • High stress in dynamic study: it is dangerous to suppose a part is ok (by static) when it is going to fail, indeed

  • What about when yield strength is passed? Well, we will know when it is exceeded and further behaviour

  • If we are talking about impact calculations, difference between both models are clearer. See the picture showing a carframe impacting against the buffer.
    • Impact zone: we could accept a profile as valid (static) when it will fail…!!

 

Finally, coming back to your “reasons” for not doing this kind of realistic calculations:

Reason 1. It is not necessary, indeed à ARE YOU SURE?

Reason 3. Less expensive, of course à ARE YOU SURE?
